Stick #77: Caught Between Two Hard Choices (Unfavorable)
左也难来右也难,居中调和是良方。两害相权取其轻,果断抉择莫彷徨。
Plain reading
Left is hard and right is hard — harmony in the middle may help. Weigh two harms and take the lighter; decide firmly and do not wander.
Interpretation
This is an unfavorable lot titled "Caught Between Two Hard Choices." Neither side is easy — mediate in the center and choose the lesser harm. "Weigh two harms, take the lighter; decide without wavering" shows perfection is not required — accept what is bearable.
Advice
List the worst outcome of each side and choose the lighter harm. If still torn, flip a coin and then do not revisit — often after choosing, the heart settles.
From Mencius: "Fish and bear paw cannot both be held" — even sages must choose; choice itself is wisdom.
